Reaction of U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert to Latest House Democrat Health Plan

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House Democrats emerged from weeks of closed-door negotiations with a massive new 1,990-page proposal for government-run health care:

“Instead of producing a bipartisan proposal that delivers the solutions Americans want, Democrat leaders are simply pushing ahead with a go-it-alone approach that raises costs, slashes Medicare, and will drive families into government-run care.  Americans need common-sense health care solutions, and those don’t require massive new costs on individuals and small businesses at the worst possible time for our economy.

“House Democrats should set aside their closed-door policy, and consider ideas from House Republicans that can truly lower costs, increase competition, improve portability for those between jobs, and expand coverage for pre-existing conditions.  Options like medial malpractice reform and association health plans for small businesses could dramatically reduce health expenses, without placing the government in charge of our health care.

”I hope House leaders agree to open up this process and allow the best ideas to move forward, because the new blueprint they outlined today is the wrong answer for America.”
