Reaction of U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert to Latest Unemployment Data

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported a loss of 263,000 jobs in the month of September, raising the national unemployment rate to 9.8 percent:

“Over 15 million Americans are out of work, and families everywhere face increasing financial insecurity as the economy continues to shed jobs.  It’s long past time for Congress to reject the big-spending approach to recovery that has clearly failed to stimulate job growth or ease the financial burden on struggling families.  Proposals for more job-killing tax hikes on energy and massive new spending on government-run health care only further undermine growth and add to the economic uncertainty of American families and small businesses.   Congress needs to get its financial house in order, rein in wasteful spending, and enact the sorts of targeted policies that will start creating jobs today.”
